Totally Mixed Up Presents: Let Me In - The Best Of Mike Francis - A Mega Mix By THE BEATMEISTER

Been doin' some experimentation with this new filehosting site that my buddy, OEV, recommended to me a couple of weeks back and I will be trying it out for today's upload. Just click on the play button below for the mixset preview.

His sudden death came as a shock to me, so as my personal tribue to the late great Francesco Puccioni, best known as Mike Francis (April 26, 1961 – January 30, 2009), especially to his Pinoy fans, I've compiled almost all of his greatest hits and the not-so-popular ones, and mixed it in one single set for every fan's (including myself) listening pleasure.

Have included all of my faves from Mr. Puccioni namely "Survivor," "Features Of Love," "Friends," "Suddenly Back To Me," and the best of 'em all, "Let Me In."

Here's a short bio on the late great Mike Francis. Francesco Puccioni, was an Italian singer and composer, best known for his 1982 disco hit "Survivor".

He was born in Florence. Mike carried through his activity as an author and composer with great success, other than for himself as in "Let Me In", for other artists, in this particular case for Amii Stewart in "Friends" (already on top of both Black American and English charts) and "Together", where he is again author-composer.

Francis formed his first band at age 14 with schoolmates from l'Istituto di Studi Americano in Rome. He had his first hit with "Survivor" in 1982 and went on to record ten studio albums. Francis died January 30, 2009 of lung cancer in Rome. (quoted from wikipedia).

With these 2 most requested anthems, "Let Me In" and "Friends" played on and on by DJs in parties way back in the 80s, Mike Francis will surely be missed by his Filipino fans, both then and now. This mix is a must-have for anyone, who has enjoyed his music. Rest in peace brother.

The Vault In The Mix Presents: An Eyeball Dub Sampler - A DJ Mix by DEAN ANDREW

After that very successful live broadcast last weekend with soaring STATs, titled "A Taste Of Love," c/o The Boy Wonder and DJ Andrew a.k.a. Dean Andrew, mixing 'em all live and taking us all back to the good 'ol 80s, here's a special mix set from Dean courtesy of The Vault, a sample of what you'll be hearing from him every Saturday nights, so you might as well tune in to hear more great stuff.

Another power mixer and also a main resident of The Vault, and one of the pioneers in the scene because of his long list of credentials (see below), am once again very proud to have Dean Andrew here on Totally Mixed Up finally, to share his mixing prowess with us mortals. hehehe.

A founding member of Eyeball Dub (XB102's then resident mobile), then joined Social Distortion & First Audio, and also became a resident DJ of the most popular club in Manila back in the 80s called "Faces" disco. He did also a couple-of-year residencies in China before settling in the U.S. and now, one of The Vault's main men alongside The Boy Wonder.

With these kinds of accomplishments, this mix is a guaranteed floor stomper once more and another sure treat for 80s Wave lovers courtesy of Dean. Expect a more upbeat and danceable set with some twists and turns he made within the mix by remixing some of the tracks to give it more oomph. You'll be hearing stuff from THE RAMONES, BREAKFAST CLUB, LOTUS EATERS, BILLY IDOL, THE B-52'S, PETER SCHILLING to name a few. Now isn't that some yummy stuff? hehehe.

Don't forget to leave some shout-outs if you enjoyed today's set. Once more, thanks Dean for this rockin' retro set and hope to hear more great mixes from you bro!! For new visitors, just holler your email for the link.

In my continuing quest to deliver the two best things, which I enjoy most: LISTENING TO GREAT MUSIC and MIXING, MASHING and REMIXING THEM, that is, here's another surefire treat for all you New Wave lovers, who continue to patronize our almost 2-1/2-year-old music blog, Totally Mixed Up, and also to our loyal The Vault listeners.

This mixset was also played in one of our Vault In The Mix sessions airing every Saturday at 8:00 PM (PST) and Sundays at 12-1 PM (Manila), so I just hope that you were able to catch it during its premiere broadcast.

Mostly 80s faves, todays tracks are mostly classified on the "romantic" side of New Wave back in the day, I guess, in time for the 14th (uggghh...) hehehe..

Anyways, expect more wave classics from my fave 80s bands like THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS, THE SOUND, THE WILD SWANS, THE CARE, CHINA CRISIS, PSYCHEDELIC FURS, ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN, INDUSTRY, ORANGE JUICE, & THE ROMANTICS.

Also, you may want to look out for the upcoming The Vault special on the 14th of Feb, Valentine's Day, to be exact, called "A TASTE OF LOVE": The Ultimate Retro Dance Party @ 4 PM (PST) with music provided by DJ Danny, Dean Andrew of Eyeball Dub, DJ Andrew of Anzia First Audio & of course, The Boy Wonder, doing 'em all LIVE & IN THE MIX.

The Vault In The Mix Presents: The Best Of The Thompson Twins - A Mega Mix By THE BEATMEISTER

Here's another one of my fave New Wave bands from the 80s. A British Pop group formed in April of 1977, they achieved considerable popularity in the mid-80s scoring hits in both the UK and US.

Named after the two bumbling detectives Thompson and Thompson in Herge's comic strip, The Adventures of Tintin, the band's lineup consisted of Tom Bailey (bass and vocals), Alannah Curie (xylophone, percussion, vocals) and Joe Leeway (congas, percussion).

"They broke into the UK Singles Chart and the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart at the beginning of 1983 with "Lies" and "Love On Your Side", which became the band's first UK Top 10 single. Further singles from their third album Quick Step and Side Kick (called simply Side Kicks in the U.S.) followed with "We Are Detective" (another Top 10 UK hit) and "Watching". Bailey's flame-red hair and bright ponytail and Currie's wasp-swatting style at the xylophone swiftly became endearing images of an exciting new act. Bailey primarily wrote the music (with significant enough input from Leeway that he received co-authorship credit on all tracks), and Currie contributed most (if not all) of the lyrics. Leeway was primarily responsible for the band's live visuals. During 1983, the band had the opening spot on The Police concert tour in the U.S.
At the end of 1983, a new single, "Hold Me Now", was released. The song was an international chart success, peaking at #3 in the US in the spring of 1984, becoming their biggest American hit, and also hitting #4 in their native UK where it became the band's biggest seller earning a Gold disc[3].

Further hit singles followed in 1984: the Top 5 UK pop hit "Doctor! Doctor!"; the quirky "You Take Me Up" (reaching number two, their highest UK chart placing, and earning a Silver disc[4]); the haunting "Sister of Mercy"; and "The Gap", with its Middle Eastern rhythms (though this was not released in the UK). The corresponding album, Into The Gap, was one of the biggest selling of 1984, selling five million units worldwide and topping the British album charts. The band also embarked on a world tour in support of the album.

A late 1984 single, "Lay Your Hands On Me", saw the band attempt to build on their success, but the visuals of the band draped in jewels contrasted sharply with the prevalent theme of Band Aid for famine relief in Ethiopia. The single did well, making the US Top 10 (and #13 in the UK), but by then the trio had peaked." (quoted from wikipedia)

This is my best effort in compiling their best and greatest hits and the not-so-popular ones, all in one single Mega Mix, which was also featured in our weekly program, The Vault In The Mix, every Saturdays (US) and Sundays (Manila). Again, thanks much to my buddy, The Boy Wonder, for a copy of the mix from the show. :D

Enjoy another awesome blast-from-the-past journey in music!!! Here's To Future Days!!
