True Faith - The PERFECT Mixtape - MegaMIx By THE BEATMEISTER
formed in 1992, they have become one of the Philippines' most popular and accomplished bands. Their music is best described as a blend of jazz, folk, pop and rock music. In 1993, a demo tape of the band's song "Perfect", a romantic ballad with jangling guitars and longing vocals à la the Railway Children and the Lotus Eaters, hit number one on the Manila Top 40 radio station 99.5 RT FM. Here's a collection of their best tunes over the years... ENJOY..!!!Thursday, August 16, 2012

OPM Mash-Up : Sama Na (The Beatmeister's Praise The Beats Mash-Up Mix) - Fatboy Slim vs. The Chillitees

Here's another local Pinoy band I kinda like also because of their unique sound, which they term "alterna-soul." They like to describe it as a cool fusion of all their major influences from The Beatles to Nirvana to Mariah Carey to Eraserheads to APO Hiking Society to Bread and to anything and everything in between.
What I find unique about the band is that most of their songs are in Tagalog (the Philippines native language), but the instrumentation and arrangement of their songs have a Western vibe in it. Some Pinoy bands try so hard mimicking foreign artists by trying to sound too American or too British, which makes it sound corny for me (IMHO). The Chillitees, on the other hand, doesn't need to do that and in fact, proudly incorporates their roots through their music.
Their members include Dan Gil on vintage keys/vocals, Uela Basco on lead vocals, Ryan Ventura on bass, Dex Aguila on drums and Jon Padilla on guitars.
Their debut album released independently called "Extra Rice Please" (hehe cool name for an album) includes this song, "Sama Na" (meaning "Come With Me/Us" in English), which I've decided to mix and mash with one of my fave Fatboy Slim tunes called "Praise You," and here's the result...
You can check them out via their multiply account @ http://thechillitees.multiply.com/ for more info.
This band is another proof of genuine, superb Pinoy talent. Kudos to you guys!!

OPM Retro + Classic New Wave = Is It Tym To Get Close To Me (The Beatmeister's Superb Mash-Up Mix) - The Cure vs. Mastaplann

I'm jumpstarting the week with a combination of the best of both worlds, old school OPM hip/hop and classic new wave. Here's a nice mash-up between Pinoy hip-hop pioneers, MastaPlann and the original gothic rockers, The Cure.
Mastaplann is an all-Filipino Hip Hop group that was formed in 1992 in the Philippines, with original group members Butch Velez aka Tracer One, Johnny Luna aka Type Slickk, Disco Mix Competition DJs Sonny Abad, Noel Macanaya aka DJ MOD, Lopi Guzman aka DJ Lopi, and managed by Jesse Gonzales. Butch and Johnny were balikbayans from the San Fernando Valley near Los Angeles, CA, Sonny a balikbayan from Hercules, CA, near the San Francisco Bay Area and Noel and Lopi native Filipinos.
On the other hand, The Cure is an English rock band that formed in Crawley, Sussex in 1976. The band has experienced several lineup changes, with frontman, guitarist and main songwriter Robert Smith—known for his iconic wild hair, pale complexion, smudged lipstick and frequently gloomy and introspective lyrics—being the only constant member.
Now, here's what I got when I decided to mash-up two classic tunes from exactly different genres.
Opposites really do attract, don't they??? Enjoy mates! :)
