3 Stars & A Sun - The Beatmeister's Tribute To The Filipino Master Rapper - Francis Magalona (October 4, 1964 - March 6, 2009)

As quoted from Inquirer.net, "the acclaimed rapper-musician was rushed to the Medical City on Thursday night, Inquirer sources said. He was “intubated” upon admission and placed in the Intensive Care Unit at 3 a.m. Friday.

Magalona was “toxic” during the early hours of Friday, the Inquirer sources further said.
Doctors still managed to administer chemotherapy on Magalona. He expired before a bone marrow transplant could be scheduled, they said.
Magalona had been undergoing several chemotherapy sessions since he was diagnosed with the
disease in August last year but was too weak to fight the infection, sources said."
Magalona was supposed to perform “Superproxy” with the Eraserheads in the band’s reunion concert, “The Final Set” at the SM Mall of Asia grounds in Pasay City on Saturday.

He had been in collaboration with Eraserheads and Pupil frontman Ely Buendia for an album to be released this year, but sadly, won't be finished because of his sudden passing away.
As a tribute to a great Filipino artist and the original urban patriot of our time, I am reposting a Megamix of almost all of his greatest hits and a Remix of one of his earlier hits for the last time. Rest in peace brother! You and your excellent contribution in the Original Pinoy Music scene will surely be missed.
Please check out my original posts from last year of the late great Francis M.

Totally Mixed Up Presents: Let Me In - The Best Of Mike Francis - A Mega Mix By THE BEATMEISTER
Been doin' some experimentation with this new filehosting site that my buddy, OEV, recommended to me a couple of weeks back and I will be trying it out for today's upload. Just click on the play button below for the mixset preview. His sudden death came as a shock to me, so as my personal tribue to the late great Francesco Puccioni, best known as Mike Francis (April 26, 1961 – January 30, 2009), especially to his Pinoy fans, I've compiled almost all of his greatest hits and the not-so-popular ones, and mixed it in one single set for every fan's
(including myself) listening pleasure.
Have included all of my faves from Mr. Puccioni namely "Survivor," "Features Of Love," "Friends," "Suddenly Back To Me," and the best of 'em all, "Let Me In."
Here's a short bio on the late great Mike Francis. Francesco Puccioni, was an Italian singer and composer, best known for his 1982 disco hit "Survivor".
He was born in Florence. Mike carried through his activity as an author and composer with great success, other than for himself as in "Let Me In", for other artists, in this particular case for Amii Stewart in "Friends" (already on top of both Black American and English charts) and "Together", where he is again author-comp
oser.
Francis formed his first band at age 14 with schoolmates from l'Istituto di Studi Americano in Rome. He had his first hit with "Survivor" in 1982 and went on to record ten studio albums. Francis died January 30, 2009 of lung cancer in Rome. (quoted from wikipedia).
With these 2 most requested anthems, "Let Me In" and "Friends" played on and on by DJs in parties way back in the 80s, Mike Francis will surely be missed by his Filipino fans, both then and now. This mix is a must-have for anyone, who has enjoyed his music. Rest in peace brother.

ide Kicks in the U.S.) followed with "We Are Detective" (another Top 10 UK hit) and "Watching". Bailey's flame-red hair and bright ponytail and Currie's wasp-swatting style at the xylophone swiftly became endearing images of an exciting new act. Bailey primarily wrote the music (with significant enough input from Leeway that he received co-authorship credit on all tracks), and Currie contributed most (if not all) of the lyrics. Leeway was primarily responsible for the band's live visuals. During 1983, the band had the opening spot on The Police concert tour in the U.S.At the end of 1983, a new single, "Hold Me Now", was released. The song was an international chart success, peaking at #3 in the US in the spring of 1984, becoming their biggest American hit, and also hitting #4 in their native UK where it became the band's biggest seller earning a Gold disc[3].
gles followed in 1984: the Top 5 UK pop hit "Doctor! Doctor!"; the quirky "You Take Me Up" (reaching number two, their highest UK chart placing, and earning a Silver disc[4]); the haunting "Sister of Mercy"; and "The Gap", with its Middle Eastern rhythms (though this was not released in the UK). The corresponding album, Into The Gap, was one of the biggest selling of 1984, selling five million units worldwide and topping the British album charts. The band also embarked on a world tour in support of the album.
well, making the US Top 10 (and #13 in the UK), but by then the trio had peaked." (quoted from wikipedia)Tuesday, September 16, 2008

For The Love Of The Beat - Omni Trio vs. The Beatmeister

In the early 80s he released a series of experimental ambient albums under the names Robert Haigh and Sema - the most notable being ‘Three Seasons Only’ and ‘Notes From Underground’. He also contributed to several Nurse with Wound projects and formed an industrial avant funk band called The Truth Club together with Trefor Goronwy, who would go on to join This Heat, Camberwell Now and become involved with music in the former Soviet Union..

as the first artist in the genre to produce six full-length artist albums. The track First Contact made it on the GTA III dance radio station.Friday, July 4, 2008
OPM Set - An Urban Patriot's MegaMix - The Beatmeister vs. Francis M

he branched out to emceeing and released the groundbreaking album Yo! in 1990 garnering the nationistic hit Mga Kababayan (My Countrymen), making Yo! the first commercially released Pinoy rap album in the Philippines.[1] While rapping politically conscious and thought-provoking rhymes in both English and Tagalog, the album was a total success and helped instantly catapult Filipino hip hop from underground to mainstream status and also marked the birth of Makabayang or Nationalistic rap in Filipino hip hop.
BTW, please check out my remix of another one of his hits if you enjoyed this post... http://totallymixedup.blogspot.com/2008/04/opm-retro-cold-summer-nights.html
