Sit Back, Relax, Watch A Movie - The Beatmeister's 80s Movie Soundtrack and Contemporary Rock Mix

Had a stormy weekend (literally) last Saturday and early Sunday morning as we were battered by this freakin' weather disturbance named "Frank" (international codename: Fengshen). We really felt his strength around 3-5 am, dawn of Sunday, with howling winds banging our windows and nonstop rains after.

So because of this, my wife and I decided to just stay home the rest of the day instead of our daily weekend routine of an early morning run, hear mass afterwards and then drop by my in-law's.

Luckily, we were in for a treat as we were able to catch some classic 80s movies from Cinemax and HBO namely, "Just One of The Guys," (the actors were not familiar to me, but the fashion was cool with an okay storyline) and the 1980s film, "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" starring that 80s hottie, Phoebe Cates with Sean Pean, Judge Reinhold and Jennifer Jason Leigh (Single White Female).

All in all, I had a fun and relaxing weekend even with the storm, as I was able to spend some quality time with my wifey, which we're not able to do much because of our very busy skeds. :)

Anyways, in line with this, am uploading a collection of the greatest soundtracks from some of the greatest films from the past two decades. Also in the mix are some contemporary 80s rock tunes, which could also fit very well into a movie soundtrack.

Tracklist:
1) Intro - Excerpts from the cult 80s classic "Back To The Future"
2) King Of Wishful Thinking (Jon Gas US 12" Mix) - Go West - from "Pretty Woman"
3) St. Elmo's Fire Theme (Ultrasound Long Version) - John Parr - from "St. Elmo's Fire"
4) Valerie (Ultrasound Extended Version) - Steve Winwood - sounds like an 80s summer tune
5) Power Of Love (The Beatmeister's Remix) - Huey Lewis & The News - from "Back To The Future"
6) Hungry Eyes (Hungry For More Ultrasound Remix) - Eric Carmen - from "Dirty Dancing"
7) Missing You (Extended 12" Mix) - John Waite - please tell me if this was used as a soundtrack of an 80s movie coz I have no idea

8) C'est La Vie (Extended Mix) - Robbie Nevil
9) Every Breath You Take (The Beatmeister's Remix) - The Police - 80s classic track
10) Who's Johnny (Extended Remix) - El DeBarge - from "Short Circuit"
11) Union Of The Snake (Ultrasound Snake Remix) - Duran Duran - another 80s classic
12) Let's Dance (Original 12" Extended Version) - David Bowie - put on your red shoes and dance the blues...

13) Don't You (Forget About Me) (12" Extended Version) - Simple Minds - from "The Breakfast Club"

14) Save A Prayer (DMC Mix) - Duran Duran
15) Outro - Excerpt from "Short Circuit"

Enjoy and please leave some comments if you loved this mix! Would appreciate it much. :)

Classics Remixed - Every Breath You Take (The Beatmeister's Remix) - The Police

Somethin' for the weekend, another prelude to my upcoming 80s mix once more with a sort of different theme.

Here's my personal take on this 1983 classic track from another great 80s band, "The Police." Composed of Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner more popularly known as Sting on vocals and bass, Andy Sumners on guitar and vocals, and Stewart Copeland on drums, percussion and vocals, they became popular globally in the early 80s playing a different style of rock influenced by jazz, rock and reggae. This hit was from their 1983 album, "Synchronicity," which topped the UK charts for four weeks and the Billboard Music Charts for eight weeks. It was also sampled by P. Diddy on his hit, "I'll Be Missing You" with Faith Evans in memory of the late Notorious B.I.G.

Stay tuned for my 80s Movie Soundtracks & Contemporary Rock Mix coming soon!! PEACE OUT!

OPM Set - UltraElektroMagneticMix - Spazzkid vs. The Eraserheads

First, would like to welcome Spazzkid as one of our permanent resident DJs here alongside me and DJ MoProd to deliver those outstanding mixes, mash-ups and remixes from all music genres. Superb Pinoy talent indeed!!

Am quite very excited with today's mix as it was recorded from a live set performed by Spazzkid at Saguijo in Makati City, Philippines last June 14th. Too bad I wasn't able to catch it. Luckily, he posted it back at his multiply site, so that us mortals would be able to listen to his amazing mix and mash of one of the most influential bands in OPM history, The Eraserheads.

A brief backgrounder on The Eraserheads... Formed by Ely Buendia, Raimund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala, and Marcus Adoro, they were a prominent local band in the 90s and can be considered as one of the most successful and critically acclaimed in the history of OPM. They also paved the way for other alternative bands during that decade and have released singles, albums and EPs that have all reached number one.

I'm sure all Pinoy E-heads fans out there would definitely enjoy Spazzkid's set (including me, hehe).

Tracklist:
1) Kailan
2) Slomo
3) Alapaap - nice remix man!!; my fave E-heads tune.
4) Superproxy - really loved that Breakbeat touch!!

After enjoying Spazz's mix, I've decided to call the band "Elektroheads" for the meantime, hehe. :)

Hybrid Music - The Sound Of Minimal Tech With A Touch Of Electro

This is another genre, which I am learning to appreciate as I listen to it more and more. As quoted from wikipedia, "Minimal tech is considered a minimalist sub-genre of techno, which is characterized by a stripped down aesthetic that exploits the use of repetition and understated development. This style of dance music adheres to the motto, less is more, hence the word 'minimal'."

For today's mix upload, I've included my faves in this genre namely Richie Hawtin a.k.a. Plastikman, Satoshi Tomiie, Sasha, Deadmau5, Pryda and Terry Lee Brown.

The atmosphere that I've created for this mix is somewhat of a hybrid between minimal tech with a tinge of electro as it progresses just to add some spice to the latter's generally repetitive beats, which in a way, becomes stale and might become boring for some new listeners.

Classic tunes gone electro from The Who, INXS, The Fray and House Of Pain provides that needed kick. A remixed Kylie is also included.

Tracklist:
1) Spastik (Dubfire Rework) - Plastikman
2) Solar (Windluca Bacchetti Remix) - Satoshi Tomiie
3) Baba O'Riley (Extended Mix) - The Who vs. The Cube Guys - check this out!! love this remix!
4) Who's The Big Boss (Original Mix) - Delete

5) Wow (David Guetta and Joachim Garraud Remix) - Kylie Minogue
6) Ironman (Original Mix) - Pryda

7) Jump Around (Deadmau5 Remix) - House Of Pain
8) Community Funk (Original Mix) - Deadmau5
9) Pixel (Original Mix) - El Farouki
10) Need You Tonight (Insider Traitors Remix) - INXS
11) Mongoose (Original Mix) - Sasha

12) Groove You Out Tonight (Funkagendas Dry Bagel Mix) - Shik Stylko feat. Tyree Cooper
13) How To Save A Life (Robbie Rivera Remix) - The Fray
14) Continue In My Words - (Original Mix) Paer Grindvik
15) Our Rhythm (Original Mix) - Terry Lee Brown

Move and groove to that minimal-electro hybrid!

Another Day, Another Mash-Up - Give Me The Harder, Stronger Ass (The Beatmeister's Mash-Up Mix) - Daft Punk vs. The Beatnuts

More experimental tracks comin' your way. Here's somethin' I did a couple of months back. Was able to snag some acapellas and hippie beats and tried more experimenting with them while getting a bit bored one fine day.

I've enjoyed very much this instrumental track by "The Beatnuts" called "Give Me The Ass," which samples Patrice Rushen's "Forget Me Nots," so I tried my very best to look for a nice acapella to lay over it and voila!, found it through "Daft Punk's," "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger." A bit Kanye-inspired, but a lot different, I guarantee.

It's approximately two days before "Totally Mixed Up's" 1st birthday so consider this as one of my pre-anniversary treat to all you loyal readers and regular visitors!!! PEACE OUT!

Kill The DJ - A Disco Punk Mix

Nope, I'm not getting violent here, hehe. I just got inspired by Spazzkid's and Eggboy's mixtapes that I've decided to make one of my own, similar to the sets that they do; a little bit of indiepop and discopunk, with a touch of that low-fi sound and a bit of breaks and old school 80s new wave all in one mix.

Most of these bands that I've featured for today's mix have a thing in common; that very recognizable synth sound and the ability to create that dance music atmosphere in the absence of the traditional DJ setup.

Included on today's set is another promising Pinoy band, Taken By Cars, which started indie, but is slowly, but surely making it to mainstream with their melodic, dancey, 80s-inspired sound. Ironically, the band is comprised of four young individuals, but their style is very reminiscent to that female-led 80s goth band, Siouxsie & The Banshees. This mix kicks off with two of their most popular tunes, "A Weeknight Memoir" and the very catchy "Uh Oh."

More disco punk tunes follow via Bloc Party, Death From Above 1979, The Bravery, The Killers, and The Strokes. Have also inserted a surprise 80s track from my fave Robert Smith-led goth band, "The Cure."

Also in the mix is an original track from the collaboration of Eggboy & Spazzkid called "Running Off," which I enjoyed very much and that cool track from Diego's band "Pedicab," called "Dizzyboy", which I personally remixed myself for that added flava.

Tracklist:
1) A Weeknight Memoir (In High Definition) - Taken By Cars
2) Uh Oh - Taken By Cars
3) Banquet (Phones Disco Edit) - Bloc Party

4) Dizzy Boy (The Beatmeister's Remix) - Pedicab
5) Romantic Rights (Erol Alkan's Remix) - Death From Above 1979
6) Honest Mistake - The Bravery
7) Shadowplay - The Killers
8) In Between Days - The Cure
9) Juicebox - The Strokes

10) Running Off - Eggboy vs. Cocolulu (Spazzkid) - enjoyed this lo-fi track very much!; great job guys.

11) The Perfect Drug (Meat Beat Manifesto Mix) - Nine Inch Nails

This is cutting edge dance music! Consider this as my sequel to that 80s slam dance mix, which I've posted just last month. :D

Mixtape For Beatmeister - DJ Mix by Eggboy

Here's another surpise mix set from another multi-talented Pinoy, who I think can do anything he wishes as long as it's related to music. Meet Eggboy a.k.a. Diego Mapa. He plays in several bands including Pedicab (i believe he's the lead singer), Monsterbot, Cambio and Dayuhan. He even has a home recording stint, which he incidentally calls "Eggboy" since '98.

He relates that he got into recording when his brother gave him a 4-track recorder and eventually later graduated to digital recording.

He tells me that he spins for fun and also likes to listen to a little bit of everything, which he obviously infuses into each set that he does. Having first listened to an earlier mixtape, which he did for a local radio station posted on his multiply site, instantly caught my ears coz' of his eclectic taste and very unique style in mixing. Obviously, as much as I love retro, I also balance my listening habits by exposing myself to new music and his mixes surely satisfies this craving of mine.

So for today's mix, which he made especially for my blog (thanks again man!), expect the unexpected as you'll be hearing different styles and genres, especially very new stuff and a lot of his fave tracks, which he loved to overplay during his sets, especially Phoenix and United States of Electronica. He also has a bit of Kaskade, just for some purists out there.

A very unique playlist, if my say, as he included some of my faves like The Chemical Brothers, Cut Chemist, UNKLE, LCD Soundsystem and Sergio Mendez (very eclectic indeed), all in one set.

Also before I forget, you may want to visit his multiply site @ http://eggboynation.multiply.com/ for more info about the man and his music.

Tracklist:
1) Dirt – Death in Vegas
2) Storm – Cut Chemist feat. Edan & Mr. Lif
3) Oh my god – Mark Ronson feat. Lily Allen
4) Tell me – Sergio Mendez
5) Beat connection – LCD Soundsystem

6) Climb the walls – United States of Electronica
7) Star guitar – Chemical Brothers (shinichi osawa mix) - very interesting remix; must hear
8) Miserable Girl – Soulwax
9) Dramaqueen – Switches (dead kids mix)
10) Sudden rush – Erland Oye (the twelves remix)
11) If I ever feel better – Phoenix

12) 4am – Kaskade
13) Run into flowers – M83 (Unkle remix)

Once again, big ups for sharing your talent bro and more superb mixes please. :D

Fusion Of Hip Hop & Dance - Pass The Vibe Mix

Here's a nice collection of some of my fave popular tracks incorporating rap/hip hop into dancey, four-to-the-floor beats. It's very similar to the hip-house genre, which was very popular back in the early 90s (Technotronic, Heavy D & The Boys, Mr. Lee, 2-Unlimited), but with the BPMs a bit slower and more funkier.

Kicking off the set is a not-so-new tune from LL Cool J called "Phenomenon," which has elements of Armand Van Helden's "Funk Phenomenon," followed by Positive K's "I Got A Man." Two more of my current faves blend in the mix consecutively after Craig Daid with my recent remix of Dice & K9's "Eargasmic" and Estelle feat. Kanye West's "American Boy."

It builds up with Janet's "Feedback" followed by Rihanna's "Please Don't Stop The Music," sampling an MJ song. More heavy beats pump through your subs via Kanye feat. T Pain, Akon, Gwen Stefani, and recent Manila visitor Flo-Rida feat. Timbaland. The BEP's cool track, "Like That," feat. John Legend, Q-Tip, and Talib Kweli caps off the mix.

Tracklist:

1) Phenomenon - LL Cool J
2) I Got A Man - Positive K
3) Hot Stuff - Craig David
4) Eargasmic (The Beatmeister's Remix) - Dice & K9
5) American Boy (IL Hott DJ Stronger Remix) - Estelle feat. Kanye West
6) Feedback (Extended Mix) - Janet Jackson
7) Please Don't Stop The Music - Rihanna

8) The Good Life (Micha Moor Remix) - Kanye West feat. T. Pain

9) What You Got (R.E.E.O. Remix) - Colby Odonis feat. Akon
10) Wind It Up - Gwen Stefani
11) Elevator - Flo-Rida feat. Timbaland
12) Like That (Extended Mix) - The Black Eyed Peas feat. John Legend, Talib Kweli & Q-Tip

Enjoy and please leave some comments if you liked this week's set! :D
