The Walkman Generation - An Experimental Eclectic 80s Mix

Before the birth of this nifty gadget called the iPod, 30-40 something music lovers like you and me first enjoyed the versatility of this portable music player known as the "Walkman," which was originally a Sony brand, and because of its extreme popularity in the 80s, eventually became a generic term for any similar device, regardless of the brand. The original Walkman introduced a change in music listening habits, allowing people to carry their own choice of music with them. Even Michael J. Fox had one in the cult classic, "Back To The Future."

Imagine today's post as sort of a prequel to last month's, "The iPod Generation - An Eclectic Mix." For this mix, I've included different genres of 80s music namely 80s pop, glam rock, punk rock, dark wave, and of course, british new wave, giving it a little twist and turn to break all barriers, 80s style. Here you'll see how Styx would blend with Red Rockers, Bruce Springsteen with Seonna Dancing, Slyfox with Tears For Fears and a lot more unexpected transitions. This set would somehow demonstrate how my mixtape would sound like if I was suddenly transported back to the 80s (hope Doc Emmett Brown would take me for a spin on his DeLorean time machine!!)

Now for the tracks:
1) Let's Go All The Way, Head Over Heels - Slyfox vs. Tears For Fears (The Beatmeister's Experimental Mash-Up Mix) - check this out!
2) Puttin' On The Ritz - Taco (Original Extended 12" Version)

3) 99 Luft Balloons - Nena (Extended Version)
4) Love Missile 1 - Sigue Sigue Sputnik (Extended Version)
5) Catch Me I'm Falling - Real Life (12" Version)
6) Jewel - Propaganda (Extended Version) - love this tougher and noisier one! reminds me of WXB102; check out Julia's post on this one!
7) Melt With You - Modern English (Extended 12" Version)
8) Damaged Goods - Gang Of Four (Extended 12" Version)
9) China - Redrockers (Beatmeister's Experimental Dub Mix)
10) Mr. Roboto - Styx (Rock Shock Remix)
11) Stepping Out - Joe Jackson (Grandmaster Guy Remix) - this one's for my buddy, Jaybee; he's the one who encouraged me to go blogging; thanks man!
12) Dancing In The Dark - Bruce Springsteen (Hot Tracks Remix)
13) More To Loose - Seonna Dancing (Beatmeister's Double-Beat Dance Mix)
14) Cum' On Feel The Noize - Quiet Riot (Rock Shock Remix) - added some effects to Carlos Cavazo's guitar solo
15) Let Her Go - Strawberry Switchblade (Kitchen Synch Mix-Up)
16) Just Like Heaven - The Cure (Chuck Remix) - Robert Smith rocks!!!
17) Love Will Tear Us Apart - Joy Division (Arthur Baker Remix) - Ian Curtis rules!!!
18) Suedehead - Morrissey (2006 Sparks Remix) - thanks to skin at digital eargasm for this remix!
19) Whip It - Devo (Philip Steir - Ramin Sakurai Mix) - nice remix!!

This is my favorite mix so far as it breaks all boundaries in 80s music and not just emphasize in one genre. Hope you'll enjoy this retro musical experiment! :)
